Pre-rally signmaking and Zen meditation
Meet March 17, 2007 at 10 AM and have fun making signs together. Please bring your own poster paper/boards and markers.
The NM Zen Peacemaker Circle is planning to meet at 10:00 am at 2nd Street
and Copper to meditate for 30 minutes.
Gather on March 17, 2007 at the Albuquerque Civic Plaza, 3rd and Tijeras NW.
(map)
The rally will begin at 11 AM (or come at 10 AM for pre-rally signmaking), then proceed to the nearby offices of Senators Domenici and Bingaman,
and conclude at Robinson Park for a Peace-a-Palooza, a celebration of Peace and Unity in the Community, with speakers and bands.
The planned route (subject to change): start at the Civic Plaza; down 3rd St. to Domenici's office; then continuing down 3rd to Silver; then Silver to Bingaman's office; back up 7th St. to Central; and finally, from Central to Robinson Park.
This demonstration is part of a global protest on the fourth anniversary of the beginning of the war on Iraq.
See the statement Why We March Today by Robb Chavez.
Protestors will tell Congress, especially Dominici and Bingaman, to enact legislation to
bring our troops home NOW,
stop recruiting in our schools (see anti-recruiting flyer),
free Palestine from Israeli occupation,
and halt military plans to bomb Iran (see Iran flyer).
The demonstration marks the 40th anniversary of the 1967 March on the Pentagon.
The entire event is expected to last for three hours.
Over twenty five New Mexican servicemen have been killed in Iraq
(to see their faces and hometowns click
here).
Over thirty five hundred American servicemen and women have been killed
(see their faces
here).
Tens of thousands of American soldiers have been injured,
and over one-half million Iraqi civilians killed.
March to Senators Domenici/Bingaman offices
The march will help pressure Senators Domenici and Bingaman to stop the war, by marching to their offices and expressing citizen concerns and opposition.
Nine citizens attempted as a group to visit the office of Republican Sen. Pete Domenici last September to talk about opposition to the war,
were arrested, and now face jail terms.
Read the article
about their treatment by Dominici's office and Homeland Security.

(Inti-Illimania is also performing March 17 at 8 pm at the
National Hispanic Cultural Center; see NHCC calendar).
